Build & Test Engineer
Job Type:
Full time

About Sirona Technologies
At Sirona Technologies, we are developing direct air capture (DAC) technology to remove CO2 from the air and combat climate change. We are a young startup and are now scaling up our prototypes into industrial machines ready for mass production.
We are looking for an exceptional and mission-driven build & test engineer to drive the end-to-end planning and execution of our hardware builds. You’ll translate engineering work orders into structured build plans, manage workshop operations, and work hands-on with engineers and technicians to accelerate how we assemble our machines.
Responsibilities
As a Build & Test Engineer, you will:
- Own the build planning process, define and maintain a detailed Gantt-style schedule with linked work orders across teams.
- Review and sequence work orders with engineers to ensure efficient execution.
- Coordinate the right people, materials, and tools to get each task done, from sub-assemblies to full machine builds.
- Manage the workshop environment: safety, layout, workflows, and daily operations.
- Build and test sub-assemblies yourself, or with the team, using hands-on skills in mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Review and sequence full system test orders with engineers.
- Plan and drive full-system testing of completed machines (e.g. containerized DAC units) according to test orders.
- Spot inefficiencies and propose smart, fast, and cost-effective improvements to our build process.
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to give feedback and simplify future builds.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field with a focus on practical engineering
- Experience building complex hardware systems, ideally from first prototypes to series production.
- Strong understanding of how mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems come together.
- Experience managing hardware workflows, build plans, and workshop logistics.
- Agile mindset: resourceful, creative, and able to find scrappy solutions that work.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both in planning and on the workshop floor.
- Hands-on and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Smart but humble, with a bias for action
Nice to haves
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, metal fabrication, component sourcing) and material management.
- A strong network of suppliers (machinists, metal cutters, injection molders, etc.) and knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of global supply chains (e.g., Europe vs. China).
If you're passionate about fighting climate change and eager to join a fast-paced organization where your contributions will have a substantial impact, we'd love to hear from you.
