Senior Procurement & Costing Engineer – Industrial Equipment
See our other positions using the link below.
At Sirona Technologies we build direct air capture (DAC) machines that remove CO2 from the air. Our first containerised plant is being built in Belgium and deployed in Norway, and the next containers follow in 2027. Every machine we build has to cost less than the one before it. That is what this role exists for.
We're looking for a procurement gem. If guessing cost breakdown and profit margin on industrial equipment gets you excited, if seeding & growing vendor relationships is what gets you out of your bed, we want to hear from you. Sirona’s business hinges on taking down the cost of CO2 captured as fast and as low as possible to unlock mass adoption. And it surely will come down to setting the right vendor ecosystem, being creative, hyper prepared and be a clever negotiator. You will be Sirona’s first dedicated procurement hire, a critical contributor reporting to the Head of Operations, working directly with the engineers who design the machine.
At Sirona, engineers own the full value chain of their system with a strong do-er mindset. We call this the responsible engineer framework: they define the requirements, design, procure, build, test and deploy their system. In this role, you bring the commercial edge to that framework: you turn engineering requirements into the right suppliers, the right price and the right terms, and you give engineers their time back.
Responsibilities
As our Senior Procurement & Costing Engineer, you will:
- Bring the cost down across all direct categories: at each product iteration, industrial equipment (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, heat pumps), CO2 liquefaction, steam generation, automation, sorbent, fabricated metal parts and container modification.
- Work in close collaboration with Sirona’s Engineering team, Supply Chain team and Operations.
- Build should-cost and make-vs-buy models: break a piece of equipment down into its bill of materials and assembly hours, estimate what it should cost to make, and use that across the table, or to decide whether we should make it ourselves.
- Negotiate with scale in mind: we buy in batches of one to a few machines. Win price through cost transparency and competitive bidding, showing cost forecast, and keep our key development partners healthy.
- Open alternate sources: find, audit and qualify new vendors in Europe and overseas. Run first-article inspections and take a new supplier from zero to qualified.
- Challenge the spec: work with engineers to find components that can be specified down or standardized without hurting performance or reliability.
- Build strategic partnerships with the few critical suppliers that matter, and put supply agreements in place that stand up to investor due diligence.
- Secure warranties and performance guarantees: Sirona owns, operates its machines and earns from the CO2 it removes, so downtime is lost revenue. Clear warranties and SLA’s are essential.
- Own the commercial terms of our contracts: price, Incoterms, payment milestones, liquidated damages, change orders. Make sure Sirona owns its drawings and tooling, so a second source is always possible. You work from Sirona templates; legal wording goes to our counsel.
- Set up our vendor management program: supplier scorecards, performance review and remediation plans.
- Close the open lines: bring every placeholder and single-source line in our bill of materials to a quoted, competed and contracted state.
What this role is not
Placing purchase orders, receiving goods and matching invoices are handled by our purchasing system. No ERP administration, no public tenders, seldom indirect procurement. You will spend your time where a person beats a machine: negotiating and building supplier relationships. You’ll have full license to go AI-native wherever it delivers value.
Requirements
- Master in Industrial Engineering (ingénieur industriel / industrieel ingenieur) or Civil Engineering, mechanical or electromechanical.
- At least 3 years of experience in direct procurement, strategic sourcing or cost engineering, including, ideally buying machine components at an industrial equipment manufacturer: pumps, compressors, heat pumps and refrigeration, cryogenic or process equipment. You know what is inside the equipment we buy, because you bought those parts.
- Strong verbal and written English. Sirona is an English only working environment.
- A technical start to your career (engineering, estimating or cost role) before moving into buying.
- Should-cost as a practitioner: you have built cost models yourself and used them across the table, not only commissioned them.
- Proven negotiation record: you can show us a deal you won on cost transparency and competition.
- Supplier development: you have personally taken at least one supplier from first contact to qualified production.
- Experience in a small team, owning sourcing for a whole piece of equipment, not one commodity in a large department.
- Warranty and commercial contract terms: you know which vendor clauses to refuse.
- Genuine passion for procurement. A closer: you finish RFQs, sign contracts and live the relationship.
- Hard on numbers, warm with people.
- Smart but humble, with a bias for action.
- Strong references: we will ask to speak with engineers you worked with and with a supplier you negotiated against.
Nice to haves
- Multiregional sourcing: USA, Asia, Middle East, Africa.
- Negotiating performance guarantees and liquidated damages on complete systems.
- Metal fabrication sourcing; index-linked raw-material contracts.
- Other languages.
What you'll find here
- A first-of-a-kind machine where every euro you save recurs on every machine scaled after
- A blank sheet: you set up how Sirona sources, full AI native power behind you.
- A direct line from the cost model to the negotiation table to the machine in the field.
