At Sirona Technologies, we are developing direct air capture (DAC) technology to remove CO2 from the air and combat climate change. As a startup in the scale up phase, we are focused on learning from our existing production systems to inform the improvements in our next production systems, and pushing our machines to large series. And doing so as quickly as possible to reduce costs as quickly as possible.

We're looking for a talented and mission-driven field engineer to join our Machine team: a small group of engineers with a complete skill set, able to design the full machine,. You will be the Sirona lead on site for the installation & commissioning: you qualify the installation of the containers, you qualify the performance of the machine, and you hand over a well-running machine to the local operators. You are the bridge between what happens in the field and the engineers who design the machine.

This is an entry point into Sirona nascent project deployment team. Depending on your strengths and interests, it can evolve towards project development (helping develop our next sites) or towards testing or improving the machine.

Responsibilities

As a field engineer, you will:

• Lead the deployment of our machines on site: the installation qualification of the containers, followed by the performance qualification of the machine (typically 2-3 weeks), as the Sirona lead on site.
• Run the break-in period (about one month) and hand over a well-running machine to the local operators, including their training.
• Own safety during the works on site: permits, isolation procedures, toolbox talks, and a structured, finisher's approach to every punch list.
• Diagnose issues on site across mechanical, electrical, thermal and control systems, and act as the bridge between the site and the responsible engineers of each subsystem, who remain accountable for their design and will join you on site when needed.
• Travel to our sites for specific tests and campaigns outside of deployments. Expect around 3 cumulative months abroad per year in total.
• Between deployments, feed the field learnings back to the Machine team: the painpoints, what worked, what did not, what must change in the next design.
• Prepare the next deployments: build and commissioning procedures, test protocols, tooling and spare parts, and participate in the build of the machines in Brussels.
• Support the site operators remotely from the control room, train new operators, and keep the operational documentation (maintenance, procedures) up to date.

Requirements

• Master in Mechanical, Electromechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent. We are equally open to a strong technician who has demonstrated their ability in the field, or to a junior engineer with a strong willingness to learn fast and take responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with industrial equipment (compressors, blowers, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, PLC-controlled systems), ideally gained as a commissioning engineer at an EPC, a field or service engineer at an equipment manufacturer (OEM), or an operations engineer in an industrial plant.
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics and mechanical drawings, and to diagnose across disciplines.
• Well structured, with a finisher's mindset: you close punch lists, you document what you do, and you don't leave a site until the machine runs.
• Careful about safety, for yourself and for the whole crew.
• Autonomous and calm under pressure, comfortable leading a small crew far from home, and a clear communicator with a remote team.
• Willing to travel around 3 months per year.
• Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
• Smart but humble, with a bias for action.

Nice to haves

• A safety background and existing safety trainings or certifications (HSE, VCA/SCC, LOTO, permit-to-work systems, first aid).
• Experience leading local contractors during the EPC phase of an industrial project.
• Experience with PLC and SCADA systems beyond diagnostics.
• Experience in operations or maintenance of industrial plants, or in training operators.
• Interest in project development: site studies, permits, partner and contractor management.
